Abstract The Robert G. Askew Papers document his research into the history of gardening in North Dakota through research questionnaires he sent out across the state and were returned, together with two drafts of his article on the subject and a version published in a special edition of North Dakota Farm Research marking the 100th anniversary of the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.

Abstract The Robert G. Foss Glass Negative Collection consists of 301 4x5 inch glass plate negatives and eleven 5x7 inch glass plate negatives (these are filed at the end of the collection, numbered 302-312). Very few of the negatives are identified and thus the collection has been arranged alphabetically by topic. Abstract The Soeby-Metelmann Photograph Collection consists of prints made from the original glass plate negatives in the hands of Robert L. MacLeod, a great-grandson of Soeby. Some 175 original glass plate negatives of the photographic work of Messes. Soeby and Metelmann are extant. They had a good ‘eye’ as photographers and the images have both artistic and historical value, although they do vary in terms of physical quality of the original negatives. William Cordes Photograph Collection

Abstract The Cordes Collection is a good representation of rural life in North Dakota in the late 1910s and early 1920s. There are several farm pictures including such things as plowing and threshing. Women are also represented in this collection. One particularly good print is that of a woman milking a cow. Many of the negatives also include group pictures, both interior and outdoors. The researcher should consult the itemized finding aid for specific image identifications.
